This site is about breaking the art and skill of food preparation and cooking into bitesize pieces so they’re easier to grasp and ultimately piece together. As a high school cooking teacher, I know that the best way to become a good cook is to learn these basics first.

Here you can start from scratch or pick up somewhere along the way. There’s something here for everyone. All the recipes are tested and I guarantee they all work. Recipes are great road maps to show us how someone else got there, but one of the joys of cooking is to find your own paths. This site will help you do that too because once I teach you the basics, I'll show you how to build on them.

When you first start cooking, it can be intimidating. There is a tendency to worry excessively, but in truth, cooking is more of an art than an exact science. So, take a deep breath and have some fun, and the simple cooking tips I provide should help you do just that.

As with many things, you have to learn to crawl before you can walk then run. Most cooking shows and websites are devoted to the nuances of cooking instead of the basics. This one on the other hand, covers everything.
